Nvidia and Vertiv Develop 800-Volt AI Power Infrastructure

Nvidia and Vertiv are leading an industry shift toward 800-volt direct-current power distribution equipment for artificial intelligence data centers. This new technology aims to improve power efficiency and reduce operating costs by approximately 10% compared to existing power supplies.
Nvidia confirmed in mid-August that its MGX-compatible direct current 800-power rack will be available before the end of 2026. This hardware is specifically designed to support the next-generation Vera Rubin accelerators. Other industry players, including Navitas Semiconductor, Texas Instruments, Delta Electronics, and Schneider Electric, are also developing 800-volt equipment to support this transition.
Despite the efficiency gains, the industry may be slow to adopt the new standard. Companies have already committed over $700 billion to AI infrastructure this year, and many may be reluctant to replace recently installed equipment, meaning the full transition could take several years.
