Sui Network Adopts NIST Post-Quantum Signature Schemes
Sui Network is integrating two NIST-approved signature schemes to protect its network against potential quantum computing attacks using a dual-algorithm approach.
Sui Network announced the adoption of two NIST-approved post-quantum signature schemes to secure its network against potential threats from quantum computing, specifically Shor’s algorithm. The blockchain is integrating ML-DSA-65 (FIPS 204) for native accounts and SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s (FIPS 205) for smart contract vaults. This dual-algorithm strategy is designed to prevent a single mathematical weakness from compromising the entire system.
The update enables users to transition to quantum-safe keys using their existing recovery phrases and address aliases without the need to move funds. Although post-quantum signatures increase transaction sizes, the network is maintaining verification speeds comparable to Ed25519.
Sui Network is following a quantum-readiness roadmap co-authored by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Security Agency. This move comes after Google Quantum AI estimated in March 2026 that a fault-tolerant quantum machine could recover a private key from a public key within minutes.
Quantum-safe vaults are targeted for Mainnet release in 2026. Native ML-DSA-65 accounts are expected to arrive on Testnet by the end of 2026 and on Mainnet in the first quarter of 2027.
