James Uthmeier Wins Election as Florida Attorney General
Republican incumbent James Uthmeier defeated Democrat Jose Javier Rodriguez with 51% of the vote to retain his position as Florida Attorney General.
Republican incumbent James Uthmeier won the election to remain Florida's Attorney General, defeating Democratic challenger Jose Javier Rodriguez. Uthmeier secured the victory with 51% of the vote, totaling more than 4.1 million votes.
On Election Day, November 3, 2026, Uthmeier expressed confidence in his prospects while hosting an election night party in West Palm Beach. He predicted a "big victory" and noted that many Republican voters had not yet cast their ballots. During the voting process, he also urged residents in flooded areas to vote if they could do so safely.
Uthmeier, a former chief of staff for Governor Ron DeSantis, was appointed to the office in February 2025. His tenure has focused on a conservative legal agenda, including immigration cooperation, gun rights, and the establishment of a Public Integrity Unit to investigate the misuse of public funds.
Jose Javier Rodriguez, a former state senator and former Assistant Labor Secretary under President Joe Biden, campaigned on a platform of consumer protection, civil rights, and government accountability. Following the results, Rodriguez thanked his supporters and stated that his campaign worked to raise expectations for what the office should deliver for Florida families. Uthmeier will officially take office in January.
