Tesla Launches High-Volume Semi Production at Nevada Factory

Tesla opened a high-volume production factory in Sparks, Nevada, to scale the manufacturing of its heavy-duty electric Semi truck. The company marked the start of volume production and first deliveries during an event on September 24, 2026, introducing two trims: a Standard Range version with 325 miles and a Long Range version with 500 miles.

The vehicles feature in-house 4680 battery cells, a redesigned drive axle, and redundant electric power steering. To support the fleet, Tesla is deploying a Megacharger system capable of 1.2 Megawatts of power. The company announced a customer list including PepsiCo, DHL, US Foods, and Einride, the latter of which ordered 500 trucks. Additionally, the industry coalition ZET SCALE has placed an initial order for 2,500 trucks.

CEO Elon Musk stated that autonomous driving systems are essential to address the shortage of truck drivers, with self-driving capabilities expected by late 2026 or early 2027. Tesla also plans to expand Semi sales into Europe to compete with Volvo and Daimler Truck. While the company highlighted battery range and charging infrastructure, it did not reveal total order numbers or update the starting price during the launch event.
