Mahanagar Gas Ltd Raises CNG and PNG Prices in Mumbai

Mahanagar Gas Ltd is increasing CNG and domestic PNG prices in Mumbai starting September 1 to offset rising imported gas costs.

Mahanagar Gas Ltd will increase the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by ₹2 per kg and domestic piped natural gas (DPNG) by ₹1 per standard cubic metre in and around Mumbai effective September 1. The revised CNG price will be ₹88 per kg.

This adjustment follows a trend of rising costs, with CNG prices at company outlets increasing by a cumulative ₹6 per kg across three tranches since May 14. The company attributes the hike to a significant increase in demand and the rising cost of imported spot regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), which has been driven by escalating tensions in West Asia.

Mahanagar Gas Ltd stated the price increase is necessary to partially offset higher input costs and ensure a sustained gas supply. This move mirrors similar price increases previously implemented by peer Indraprastha Gas Ltd, which raised vehicular gas prices across five tranches.
