DJI Launches Romo 2 Robot Vacuums with Enhanced Privacy

DJI unveiled the Romo 2 robot vacuum series at IFA, featuring improved obstacle avoidance and a new Local Data Mode to address security concerns.

DJI announced the Romo 2 series of robot vacuums at IFA, introducing two models: the transparent P2 and the opaque A2. The new series features navigation capable of avoiding obstacles as small as 2mm, an 85 percent reduction in noise volume, and legs that enable the devices to climb thresholds up to 4cm.

To address security flaws in the first-generation Romo that exposed camera feeds and home floorplans, the company introduced Local Data Mode. This feature severs the app's internet connection to prevent data syncing and allows users to disable microphones and cameras or delete stored data. The Romo P2 is priced at €1,299, while the A2 is priced at €1,199.

A launch in the United States is unlikely due to existing restrictions and a Federal Communications Commission ban on foreign-made robot vacuums.
