Faishal Ibrahim Resigns From Cabinet and Parliament Over Conduct

Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim resigned from the Cabinet, the People's Action Party (PAP), and Parliament on July 20, 2026. The resignation followed an investigation sparked by a complaint from a female citizen to the Prime Minister's Office. While authorities determined that no criminal offense was committed by either party, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated that Ibrahim's conduct fell short of the standards expected of political office holders.

In a letter to Wong, Ibrahim admitted to a lapse of judgment and a failure to establish clear boundaries in his interactions with the woman, though he denied that a physical relationship ever existed. He stated he would step away from politics to devote time to his family.

People's Action Party Chairman Desmond Lee announced that no by-election will be held for the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC, as Singapore law does not require one unless all MPs in a GRC step down. The remaining four Members of Parliament—Goh Pei Ming, Diana Pang, Seah Kian Peng, and Tin Pei Ling—will divide the responsibilities of the Kembangan ward to ensure resident services continue. Lee noted that this decision maintains party standards of integrity and follows precedents set in the former Jurong and Sengkang GRCs.

Remaining GRC members described Ibrahim as a valuable teammate. Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng and Minister of State Goh Pei Ming assured residents that community initiatives in Kembangan would proceed as usual.
