US Bureau of Labor Statistics to Release August Jobs Report
The Bureau of Labor Statistics will release August employment data this Friday amid conflicting projections from analysts and stability claims from Federal Reserve officials.
The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics will release the August jobs report this Friday following a summer of stagnant growth. June and July combined resulted in a net loss of 3,000 jobs, leaving analysts divided on the upcoming data. Dow Jones consensus estimates project a growth of 53,000 nonfarm payrolls with the unemployment rate remaining at 4.1%, while Citigroup predicts a smaller gain of 20,000 jobs and a potential unemployment increase to 4.2%.
Federal Reserve officials have maintained a more optimistic view of the economy. Governors Michael Barr and Christopher Waller characterized the labor market as stable, suggesting that inflation is currently a more pressing concern for the central bank than employment levels.
Several external factors may influence the August figures. These include a decline in hiring among 21-to-24-year-olds and the July cancellation of Temporary Protected Status for approximately 350,000 Haitians.
