Connecticut Voters Cast Ballots for Governor and Congress
Connecticut holds elections on November 3 for governor, the General Assembly, and U.S. House seats, featuring a close gubernatorial race between Ned Lamont and Ryan Fazio.
The Government of Connecticut is conducting statewide elections on November 3, 2026, with the governor's seat, five U.S. House seats, 187 General Assembly positions, and six statewide constitutional offices on the ballot. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with state law permitting anyone in line at closing to vote.
The gubernatorial race features Democratic incumbent Ned Lamont and Republican State Senator Ryan Fazio. Both candidates spent similar amounts through late October, with Lamont spending $18.7 million and Fazio spending $17 million. In the General Assembly, Democrats maintain strong majorities and plan to endorse House Speaker Matt Ritter for a fourth term and Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff as Senate President Pro Tem following the retirement of Martin M. Looney.
Participation began with a two-week early voting period that concluded on November 1. While initial reports cited 417,000 early participants, updated data shows 505,973 ballots were cast prior to Election Day, representing approximately 23% of the 2.22 million eligible voters. This cycle marks the state's first use of no-excuse absentee voting and its second with early in-person voting.
State officials provided guidance on voting requirements, noting that while photo identification is not strictly required, poll workers request some form of ID. Voters with incorrect addresses on their identification are advised to bring supporting documentation, such as a utility bill. Additionally, state law prohibits wearing clothing featuring a candidate's name or likeness at polling locations.
