Australia and New Zealand Sign Plan Tasman Naval Integration Pact

The Royal Australian Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy signed Plan Tasman on September 21, 2026, establishing a framework to create a more integrated and interoperable Anzac naval force. Signed by Rear Admiral Darren Grogan and Commodore Karl Woodhead, the agreement translates shared strategic objectives into coordinated actions across personnel, training, capability development, warfighting, engineering, regulation, and international engagement.

This pact builds upon the 2024 Tasman Navy Framework and aims to enhance information sharing and operational alignment. The move responds to a deteriorating global security environment in the Indo-Pacific, signaling a transition from cooperation based on tradition to what Woodhead described as "integration by design."
