Japan Urges Asia to Increase Oil Stockpiles

Trade Minister Ryosei Akazawa called for expanded oil reserves and infrastructure in Asia to mitigate supply risks caused by Middle East instability.

Japan's Trade Minister Ryosei Akazawa called for increased oil stockpiling and infrastructure development across Asia to reduce the region's vulnerability to instability in the Middle East. Speaking at the International Energy Forum ministerial meeting, Akazawa urged stronger cooperation between oil-producing and consuming nations to enhance resilience against potential supply disruptions.

These efforts align with the Partnership on Wide Energy and Resources Resilience Asia initiative, which the Government of Japan launched in April to expand regional reserves and improve emergency response capabilities. Akazawa stated that Japan intends to act as a bridge between Middle Eastern producers and Asian consumers to ensure stable global energy supplies.

Additionally, the Trade Minister highlighted plans by the Asia Zero Emission Community to deepen coordination with oil-producing countries during emergencies to further secure the region's energy future.
