Google Launches Free AI Subscriptions and Study Tools for Students

Google is providing eligible college students worldwide with one year of free AI subscriptions and a suite of integrated academic study tools.

Google launched a global initiative to provide eligible college students in over 140 markets, including the United States, India, and South Africa, with one year of free access to its AI services. The specific offering varies by region: students in the United States receive the AI Pro plan, while those in other markets receive the AI Plus tier, which includes Gemini Omni, 400 GB of storage, and double the usage limits of standard accounts. For students ineligible for the free tier, the company is offering discounts of up to 70% on AI Pro and YouTube Premium bundles.

Alongside these promotions, the company introduced a suite of AI-powered educational tools integrated into Google Search and the Gemini app. A new centralized student hub features study notebooks that convert lecture notes into structured revision tracks and generate personalized quizzes. Technical enhancements include interactive 3D simulations for physics and finance, as well as the integration of Deep Research into Gemini Live, allowing students to conduct multi-step academic research through vocal conversations. Google Search now allows students to upload PDFs or handwritten notes to create one-page study reports and solve problems via Lens photo uploads.

These launches follow the recent release of ChatGPT for Teens by OpenAI, signaling intensifying competition in the AI education market. Eligible students in India can redeem the promotional offers until December 31, 2026, following status verification.
