Lithuania Develops Evacuation Plans Amid Russian Drone Threats

Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius announced that Lithuania has developed evacuation plans for various scenarios, including the removal of elderly citizens from cities, in response to ongoing threats from Russia. Sinkevičius stated that Lithuania will not surrender and will fight back if attacked, noting that citizens feel constantly threatened by frequent drone incursions into national airspace.

These measures follow a recent incident in which Nato fighter pilots shot down a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace from the direction of Belarus. UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting praised the joint actions of Lithuanian and Italian forces during the interception, stating that the operation demonstrated Nato's readiness to protect its airspace.

Sinkevičius argued that the United Kingdom needs to shift its defense mindset, asserting that Lithuania's proximity to the Russian border makes the security threat more immediate. He noted that while threats may not occur on a daily basis, they are a concrete reality for the nation.
