Middle East Conflict Drives Idaho Gas Prices to $4.23

Idaho gas prices rose for three straight weeks to $4.23 per gallon as Middle East conflicts and a lapsed US-Iran agreement disrupt oil supplies.

Gas prices in Idaho reached an average of $4.23 per gallon as of July 24, 2026, marking three consecutive weeks of increases. The state now ranks 12th nationally for the most expensive fuel. This trend follows a sharp rise in the West Texas Intermediate benchmark, which climbed to approximately $88 per barrel from $70 per barrel a month prior.

AAA Idaho attributed the price spikes to intensifying conflict in the Middle East and the expiration of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. The lapse of this agreement removed a stabilizing factor from the crude oil market, increasing volatility.

Supply disruptions are centered on two key maritime corridors. Houthi rebels in Yemen have attempted to block Saudi Arabian oil shipments passing through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, while tankers simultaneously faced difficulties in the Strait of Hormuz. To maintain exports, Saudi Arabia can reroute shipments through the Mediterranean Sea, though this alternative increases transportation costs and delivery times.
