Google Renames NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook and Expands AI Tools
Google rebranded its AI research tool NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook and expanded cloud computing capabilities for AI Pro subscribers.
Google renamed its AI-powered research tool NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook on July 16, 2026. The rebranding aligns the product, which launched in 2023 as Project Tailwind, with the company's broader Gemini artificial intelligence ecosystem. The tool currently serves 30 million people and 600,000 organizations and continues to prioritize user-provided documents over general internet data to reduce hallucinations.
Alongside the name change, the company is integrating Gemini Notebook more deeply with the Gemini app and plans to introduce it within the AI mode of Google Search. Google also rolled out an update providing notebooks with secure cloud computers, allowing the AI to natively write and execute code for advanced mathematics, dataset analysis, and new output formats such as .json and .pptx.
Initially available only to Google AI Ultra and Workspace business customers, access to these secure cloud computing features was expanded to all Google AI Pro web users shortly after the announcement.
