Walmart Launches Express Pickup and In-Store Tech Updates
Walmart introduced Express Pickup for one-hour curbside reservations and new in-store navigation and accessibility tools across its U.S. retail network.
Walmart launched Express Pickup, a new application feature that allows customers to reserve items for curbside pickup in as little as one hour. The service is currently available at 500 stores and will expand nationwide in the coming weeks; it is provided free of charge for Walmart+ members.
To improve the physical shopping experience, the retailer introduced Shop to Light, an in-store feature using flashing LED shelf lights to guide customers and associates to specific products. Additionally, the company implemented American Sign Language interpreting services in U.S. stores via QR codes at service desks, provided through Sorenson.
These updates are part of a broader strategy to utilize the company's 4,600 U.S. stores to enhance e-commerce fulfillment and accessibility before the holiday season. David Guggina, President and CEO of Walmart's U.S. business, noted that approximately 80% of e-commerce deliveries now flow through stores, with nearly 40% of all deliveries arriving within hours or minutes.
