Intel and Uber Announce Job Cuts in Bay Area
Intel and Uber Technologies are eliminating 144 total positions across Santa Clara and San Francisco as part of a broader regional tech layoff trend.
Intel and Uber Technologies Inc. have announced permanent job cuts in the San Francisco Bay Area, adding to a trend that saw 2,000 regional tech positions vanish in June. Both companies filed WARN notices with the state Employment Development Department to notify officials of the coming reductions.
Intel plans to eliminate 103 jobs in Santa Clara on August 15. Uber Technologies will cut 41 positions in San Francisco on September 21.
Julie Viray, Uber's vice president of human resources, indicated that nine of the affected Uber employees may be offered relocation opportunities to maintain their employment with the company.
