Spectrum Launches Services in Former Cox Communications Markets

Spectrum began transitioning millions of former Cox Communications customers to its network on September 16 following a $34.5 billion acquisition by Charter Communications.

Following a $34.5 billion acquisition of Cox Communications completed on August 20, Charter Communications officially launched Spectrum services in former Cox markets on September 16. The transition, termed Spectrum Day, brings approximately 11 million households and businesses across 45 states—including Baton Rouge, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and the Hampton Roads region—under the Spectrum brand.

Customers may maintain their existing plans, equipment, and pricing or switch to Spectrum bundles. Incentives for switching include one free year of mobile service for qualifying internet customers and a guaranteed $1,000 first-year savings for new customers bundling internet, TV, and at least two mobile lines. New offerings include the Spectrum Fiber Broadband Network and internet plans without data caps or contracts.

Over the next 18 months, the company will rebrand all Cox stores, trucks, and billing to Spectrum. Charter Communications plans to return all customer service functions to the United States during this period and is hiring more than 1,000 service and sales employees with starting wages of at least $20 per hour. The expansion increases Spectrum's total reach to over 70 million homes and businesses.
