Activists Launch Hunger Strikes Against Anthropic PBC and Google DeepMind

Activist Guido Reichstadter and former AI safety researcher Michael Trazzi have launched coordinated hunger strikes outside the offices of Anthropic PBC and Google DeepMind to demand an immediate halt to frontier AI development. Reichstadter, the founder of the non-violent civil resistance organization Stop AI, has protested without food for one week outside Anthropic PBC. He is calling on CEO Dario Amodei to stop the race toward artificial general intelligence to prevent mass job loss and human extinction.
Simultaneously, Trazzi has spent three days protesting outside Google DeepMind's London headquarters. He is urging CEO Demis Hassabis to commit to a pause in releasing frontier models on the condition that other AI labs do the same. Trazzi argues that public commitments from industry leaders are necessary to achieve global coordination around such a pause.
Reichstadter has a history of direct-action protests, including climate-related hunger strikes and a previous incident where he chained the doors of OpenAI's San Francisco offices. Both Anthropic PBC and Google DeepMind have not responded to requests for comment regarding the ongoing protests.
