Delhi Implements Security Lockdown Ahead of CJP Protest

The Cockroach Janata Party plans an unauthorized march in New Delhi on October 10, prompting a massive security clampdown and mobile internet suspension.

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) plans to march to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on October 10 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party alleges electoral roll irregularities, including voter-list tampering and discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision process. Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has called for nationwide participation, accusing the BJP-led government of mass vote deletion.

Delhi Police denied permission for the demonstration, citing a failure to provide the required 10-day notice and past conduct. Despite the denial, CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke stated the organization will proceed. In response, the Ministry of Home Affairs ordered a 24-hour mobile internet blackout within a four-kilometre radius of the Janpath-Kartavya Path crossing from 10 p.m. on October 9 to 10 p.m. on October 10.

Authorities have deployed between 25,000 and 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel, including 120 companies of Central Armed Police Forces. Security measures include the closure of liquor shops, the use of drones and facial recognition, and the monitoring of over 200 social media content creators. Transit is heavily disrupted, with several trains cancelled and entry or exit gates closed at 45 to 57 metro stations.
