Lime Prioritizes Vehicle Density Over Market Expansion

Lime CEO Wayne Ting announced the company will increase vehicle density in 60 existing U.S. cities to improve reliability following a strong quarterly revenue report.

Lime CEO Wayne Ting announced a strategic shift to prioritize vehicle density within 60 existing U.S. cities over expanding into new markets. This approach aims to enhance reliability and rider loyalty by ensuring vehicles are available where and when users need them, supported by the growth of paid subscription options like LimePass.

The strategy accompanies Lime's first quarterly earnings report, which revealed second-quarter revenue grew 24% to $304 million. The company reported a net income of $295 million, a figure that includes benefits from its initial public offering. For the first time, monthly active users surpassed 5 million, representing a 22% increase.

To support this density-focused model, Ting noted the company's use of machine-learning algorithms to optimize vehicle positioning based on demand. He stated that investing in existing markets would allow the company to grow reliability and engage riders more frequently.
