Apple Develops AI Smart Glasses for 2027 Release
Apple Inc. is developing AI-powered smart glasses to compete with Meta Platforms, featuring an upgraded Siri and integration with iOS 27.
According to reports, Apple Inc. is developing AI smart glasses scheduled for a 2027 market release to compete with Meta Platforms' Ray-Ban style wearables. The company is currently testing at least four different frame designs, including rectangular and oval styles crafted from high-quality acetate. To differentiate the product from competitors, Apple is utilizing vertically oriented oval camera lenses instead of the standard round versions.
These display-free glasses will integrate closely with the iPhone ecosystem and will launch alongside iOS 27, featuring a significantly improved version of the Siri AI assistant. This project follows a strategic shift in resources after Apple scrapped plans for a lightweight version of the Vision Pro VR headset that was originally intended for 2027. The pivot suggests a change in strategy toward more discreet, everyday wearables rather than immersive headsets.
Meta Platforms currently dominates the segment with over eighty percent market share. The entry of Apple into this space is expected to intensify competition for AI-driven wearable technology and potentially shift consumer behavior away from traditional smartphones toward voice- and vision-assisted interfaces. Both Apple's prototypes and Meta's smart glasses are produced by the manufacturer EssilorLuxottica.
