Hong Kong Growth Company Listings Rise to 30 Percent
The Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong reports that growth companies now comprise 30 percent of stock exchange listings.
The Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong reported a significant increase in the listing of growth companies on the city's stock exchange. CEO Julia Leung announced that firms specializing in biotechnology and artificial intelligence now account for 30 percent of listings, a sharp rise from 10 percent in 2023.
Speaking at a seminar in Tokyo, Leung attributed the trend to proactive reforms and improved market infrastructure for clearing and settlement. She noted that Hong Kong's proximity to China, a major producer in the AI supply chain, makes the market attractive for startups seeking international expansion.
While describing the current market as buoyant, Leung emphasized that the regulator must prioritize quality over speed. She stated the need to remain selective about new listings during periods of weakening market conditions.
