Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication Develops Shared Ledger Platform

Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication is building a blockchain infrastructure platform to enable over 30 financial institutions to settle tokenized assets and stablecoins.

The financial messaging network Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication is developing a shared ledger blockchain platform to allow banks to settle transactions involving stablecoins and tokenized assets across multiple blockchains. This initiative represents a strategic transition for the organization, moving from its traditional role as a messaging service for more than 11,500 banks toward becoming a blockchain infrastructure provider capable of direct value transfer.

According to the organization, more than 30 financial institutions are already participating in the project. The platform is intended to reduce integration costs and technical barriers for banks entering the digital asset economy while establishing a level of standardization for the global stablecoin ecosystem.

Despite the technical goals, the project faces potential geopolitical headwinds. Some analysts suggest that distrust stemming from the role of the organization in enforcing United States and European Union sanctions may hinder the platform's ability to prevent the fragmentation of global payment systems.
