Denmark and Ireland Report Mixed Retail Growth for June

European retail performance in June 2026 showed a general trend of slowing growth across Denmark and Ireland. In Denmark, Statistics Denmark reported a 0.5% month-on-month increase in retail sales, marking the second straight month of growth. This pace represents a slowdown from the 1.0% increase recorded in May, although annual growth accelerated to 4.8%.

Denmark's gains were led by consumer electronics, which surged 6.9%, alongside increases in liquid fuel and household equipment. However, sales at supermarkets and department stores fell by 0.9%, and pharmacies saw a 4.3% drop.

Similarly, the Central Statistics Office Ireland reported a slowdown in annual volume growth, which fell to 0.6% in June from 0.9% in May. Monthly retail sales value rose 0.4%, with growth driven by electrical goods and clothing. The hardware and paints sector saw the strongest annual growth at 6.8%, while furniture and lighting declined by the same margin. Irish fuel sector data revealed a divergence where sales value rose 6% annually while volume fell 3.6%, a trend attributed to inflation.
