Fairshake Sweeps Texas Primaries, Ousts 20-Year Incumbent Al Green

Crypto super PAC Fairshake won all six Texas primary runoffs it backed, spending over $8 million to defeat anti-crypto incumbent Al Green and elect pro-crypto candidates.

Fairshake, the crypto-aligned super PAC, achieved a perfect six-for-six record in Texas primary runoffs on May 26, 2026, demonstrating the growing electoral influence of cryptocurrency-backed political spending. The most significant victory came in Texas's 18th Congressional District, where Rep. Christian Menefee defeated 20-year incumbent Rep. Al Green. Fairshake invested approximately $6.5 million in Menefee's race, making it the group's single largest expenditure in the cycle.

Beyond the Menefee race, Fairshake spent an additional $1.8 million backing candidates Alex Mealer, Tom Sell, John Bonck, and Carlos De La Cruz, all of whom prevailed. On the Republican side, crypto-aligned funding supported Attorney General Ken Paxton's victory over Sen. John Cornyn in the Senate primary runoff. A separate crypto-aligned PAC, Protect Progress, contributed approximately $500,000 to Democratic candidates across six states.

Fairshake spokesperson Geoff Vetter characterized Rep. Green's defeat as evidence that anti-crypto positions carry electoral consequences. The Texas results have emboldened crypto political groups, which are now redirecting resources toward upcoming primaries in Maryland and California. Fairshake has already spent $2.12 million supporting state lawmaker Adrian Boafo in Maryland's 5th Congressional District, indicating the organization intends to replicate its Texas strategy of heavy financial investment in targeted races.
