Walmart Forecasts Q3 Sales Headwind Due to Flipkart Timing
Walmart expects a third-quarter sales growth headwind of over 100 basis points caused by a timing shift in Flipkart's Big Billion Days event.
Walmart Inc. expects a sales growth headwind of over 100 basis points in the third quarter of FY27. This projection stems from a timing shift in the Big Billion Days sales event hosted by Flipkart, the Bengaluru-based e-commerce platform in which Walmart holds over an 80% stake.
Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey stated that the company anticipates a corresponding boost to sales growth in the fourth quarter as a result of this shift. While Flipkart has not officially announced the 2026 dates, reports indicate the event will run from September 23 to October 2, 2026.
In its second-quarter earnings report, the company noted that international e-commerce growth rose 19%, with India, China, and Canada serving as primary drivers. CEO John Furner highlighted the strength of these markets, while the company's advertising business grew 20%, supported by the performance of Flipkart Ads.
