Cheyenne Residents Petition to Overturn Microsoft Data Center Expansion

Opponents of data center development in Cheyenne, Wyoming, began collecting signatures on July 21 to launch a referendum petition. The effort seeks to overturn Ordinance No. 4687, which the Cheyenne City Council passed on July 13 to annex and rezone 3,460 acres for a Microsoft data center expansion.

Petition organizers Katherine McAdams and M. Lee Hasenauer are targeting 6,000 to 7,000 signatures to secure the 2,700 valid entries required by August 2. They argue the council ignored public opposition and bypassed the need for comprehensive data center regulations from the Wyoming Legislature. If the petition succeeds, the issue will appear on the November general election ballot.
