The Bicester Town Council expressed deep disappointment after the UK government failed to respond to multiple inquiries regarding a proposal to house asylum seekers at MOD Bicester Site A. The facility, which could be operational by the end of 2026, is designed to accommodate up to 1,250 men. Calum Miller, MP for Bicester and Woodstock, noted the site's proximity to local playing fields.
The council sent letters to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood on July 14 and July 27, requesting detailed information and raising concerns about environmental impacts and community safety. Despite an August 1 deadline for a response, the Home Office and the Home Secretary have remained silent.
The proposal has triggered significant local outrage. In a notable escalation of protest, the neighboring village of Piddington has threatened to declare independence from the United Kingdom to oppose the scheme.
