Sarah Good Elected Mayor of Cornwall After Council Reduction
Sarah Good won the mayoral election in Cornwall, where a reduction in council seats left the 10th-place candidate without a seat.
Sarah Good won the mayoral election in Cornwall following a municipal vote that reduced the city council from 10 seats to eight. The structural change meant that Vamini Mohanathas, the first Tamil Canadian to run for the council, failed to secure a seat despite placing 10th among 26 candidates with 3,620 votes.
Both Mayor-elect Good and Councillor-elect Joël Côté expressed regret over the seat reduction. Côté stated he is now convinced the decision to shrink the council was a mistake. Following the victory, taxpayers have urged Good to fulfill campaign promises concerning budget transparency, property tax freezes, and the protection of the St Lawrence College Cornwall campus.
In separate regional activity, former auditor Tim Stabosz is campaigning for a seat on the La Porte County Council in the United States, positioning himself as a friend of the taxpayer committed to financial accountability.
