GMR Airports to Invest $2 Billion in India Expansion

GMR Airports Ltd. will invest 194 billion rupees to expand aviation facilities in New Delhi and Hyderabad to meet surging passenger demand.

GMR Airports Ltd. plans to invest up to 194 billion rupees ($2 billion) over the next five to seven years to expand its aviation facilities in New Delhi and Hyderabad. The investment allocates approximately 138 billion rupees to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad to double its annual capacity to 80 million passengers, and 56 billion rupees to the New Delhi airport.

These upgrades respond to projections that passenger traffic in India's domestic aviation market will grow six-fold over the next 14 years. The company will fund the expansions through a combination of debt and equity via its respective airport ventures.

While the company is discussing investment plans for an airport in Nagpur that it took over in June 2026, it has explicitly rejected entering the airline business. This decision comes despite potential Indian government policy changes designed to increase competition against dominant carriers Air India and IndiGo.
