White House Defends FBI Director Kash Patel Amid Travel Probe

White House officials defended FBI Director Kash Patel after he canceled a Chicago trip to attend an urgent meeting amid congressional scrutiny over his government spending.

White House officials defended FBI Director Kash Patel on July 11, 2026, after he abruptly canceled a planned trip to Chicago to attend an urgent meeting in Washington. Reports from MS NOW claimed senior administration officials summoned Patel because they were frustrated by his behavior, including his intent to leave town during a re-escalation of conflict with Iran and alleged threats against the president. The reports further alleged that Patel's planned visit to an FBI field office in Chicago was a pretext to visit his girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins.

White House communications director Steven Cheung denied these accounts, calling the reports of administration frustration completely false and describing Patel as a critical player on the law and order team. Patel confirmed he visited the White House but disputed the purpose of the meeting, while attacking MS NOW reporters on social media, calling them "dumbasses" and claiming his jet ski is gold plated.

The controversy coincides with bipartisan congressional investigations into Patel's use of taxpayer funds. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has demanded records regarding Patel's use of FBI aircraft for personal travel and the bureau's purchase of armored BMW SUVs. Additionally, Representative Jamie Raskin and Senator Dick Durbin alleged that Patel demanded recreational perks, such as snorkeling and jet skiing, during official government trips.
