Palm Beach County Launches Calculator for Amendment 3 Tax Vote
Palm Beach County Property Appraiser Dorothy Jacks launched a tax calculator to help voters estimate the impact of Amendment 3 before the November 3 election.
Palm Beach County Property Appraiser Dorothy Jacks launched an online calculator on September 23, 2026, to help homesteaded property owners estimate the financial impact of Amendment 3 before the November 3 general election. The proposed constitutional amendment requires 60% voter approval to increase property tax exemptions to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, though school taxes would not receive the same increase. The tool allows residents to compare current payments with projected costs for the next two years using 2026 certified property values and millage rates.
Jacks stated the calculator aims to educate the public and clarify that the measure provides a tax reduction rather than total tax elimination. She noted that the county's share of lost tax revenue could reach approximately $324 million, with further reductions affecting other local taxing authorities.
While supporters view the measure as essential relief, Florida TaxWatch has recommended that voters reject the amendment. The nonpartisan watchdog argues that the proposal should be handled through legislation rather than the state constitution. The organization also noted that the amendment would lower the annual assessment increase cap for non-homestead properties from 10% to 5% if approved.
