Aldi UK Pledges £900 Million Investment for Store Expansion
Aldi UK will invest £900 million in 2027 to open 40 new stores and upgrade distribution networks following record annual sales of £19 billion.
Aldi UK has pledged a record £900 million investment for 2027 to open 40 new stores and upgrade its warehouse and distribution network. This expansion supports a long-term goal of reaching 1,500 stores across the United Kingdom to serve communities lacking affordable grocery options. The retailer is currently opening 30 new stores over a 10-week period, including sites in Dumbarton, Newport, and Willesden.
The announcement follows record annual turnover of £19 billion for the year ending December 31, 2025, a 5% increase that gives the company an estimated 10.6% share of the UK grocery market. However, operating profits dipped 1% to £432.9 million, as the company absorbed rising wage bills—including increasing the national minimum hourly rate for store assistants to £13.50—and invested in price reductions.
To address food affordability amid rising inflation forecasts, the company invested £340 million in price cuts for over 1,000 core products earlier this year and plans further reductions before Christmas. To strengthen food security, the retailer committed to sourcing at least 50% of its products through long-term agreements with British suppliers by 2027 to boost domestic production.
