Bhutan Hosts First Conscious Food Summit in Paro
Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay leads a global summit in Bhutan to integrate mindfulness and spiritual values into global food system reforms.
Bhutan is hosting the first conscious food summit in Paro, gathering delegates from more than 60 countries, the United Nations, and various governments, farmers, and mindfulness experts. Tshering Tobgay, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, argues that solving global food insecurity, biodiversity loss, and climate change requires both inner and outer change. He advocates for reviving a spiritual relationship with food to complement existing scientific and policy frameworks.
The summit emphasizes the use of Indigenous knowledge and regenerative practices to build food systems that protect the dignity of producers and restore ecosystems. This initiative comes as the World Food Programme warns that a super El Niño could push 50 million people toward starvation following a period of intense heat, wildfires, and drought that damaged harvests across the northern hemisphere.
