Redrow Homes Yorkshire Proposes 285 Homes Near Harrogate
Redrow Homes Yorkshire has applied for planning permission to build 285 properties on farmland near Harrogate amid local government concerns over unplanned development.
Redrow Homes Yorkshire has submitted an application for outline planning permission to construct up to 285 properties on 16.8 hectares of farmland west of Oaker Bank, near Harrogate. The developer intends to concentrate the housing in the northern section of the site to preserve southern green space, incorporating a central green corridor, walking routes, and a sustainable drainage system. To achieve a 10 per cent biodiversity net gain, the plans include the retention of existing hedgerows and trees.
This proposal follows a separate application for 1,100 homes at Burley Bank, contributing to a surge in local housing requests. North Yorkshire Council officers previously criticized earlier layouts for featuring building arrangements and streets that were too car-dominated, though the developer asserts these issues have been resolved in the current submission.
The scale of these projects has drawn criticism from local officials. Councillor Michael Harrison of North Yorkshire Council stated that the county was "under siege from development that isn't plan-led," reflecting broader concerns regarding the lack of strategic planning in the region's rapid growth.
