US Military Shifts to AI-Led Warfare Model

Military leaders and lawmakers detailed a strategic shift toward an AI-led warfare model during a congressional hearing in Washington on March 19, 2026. Admiral Frank Bradley and other officials noted that while lethal autonomy is emerging, human decision-making remains a legal requirement under the law of war. Despite this strategic pivot, officials warned that budgets are not keeping pace with technological demands. Chairman Ronny Jackson reported that the purchasing power of the United States Special Operations Command has decreased by 14 percent since 2019, a gap that has forced the command to reduce its modernization budget to cover operational costs.
