Governor Adeleke Seeks Visa Bans for APC Opposition Leaders

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke urged a British delegation to impose visa bans and sanctions on APC leaders accused of sponsoring pre-election violence.

Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, requested international economic sanctions and visa bans against opposition leaders and security chiefs during a meeting with a British Government delegation in Osogbo. Adeleke accused Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola, APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, and Representative Wole Oke of sponsoring killings and gun attacks ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The governor cited the deaths of five Accord Party members and a 14-year-old boy as evidence of escalating violence. He called for strict law enforcement and a zero-tolerance approach to political thugs. The British delegation, led by Senior Political Adviser Wale Adebajo, stated their visit was part of a peace-building mission to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) denied the allegations, asserting that no party chieftains have been indicted or convicted of aiding political violence. The APC accused Adeleke of misleading the British delegation by concealing the presence of wanted thugs within the Government House and omitting the deaths of over 30 APC supporters prior to the 2022 election. The party further claimed that the governor's own aides are facing trial for the killing of former Irewole Local Government Chairman Remi Abass.
