Amazon Develops Project Tetromino for Automated Delivery Stations

Amazon.com Inc. is developing Project Tetromino, an initiative to build fully automated delivery stations that utilize AI and robotics to process packages at the final stop before customer delivery. According to an internal planning document, the company proposed a $103 million investment for a 2028 pilot, with total spending potentially exceeding $530 million by 2029 to establish 15 sites.

The system aims to process packages at 2.5 times the rate of current designs and may incorporate technology from the startup Boxbot to accelerate vehicle loading. While robotics chief Tye Brady stated that robots are intended to improve safety rather than replace employees, internal projections suggest the automation could flatten the company's hiring curve over the next decade.

An Amazon spokesperson characterized the project as an early-stage concept and stated that the specific financial figures and roadmap detailed in the leaked document are inaccurate.
