Finland Backs Indian Diplomatic Push to End Russia-Ukraine War

Finland supports India's diplomatic initiatives to secure negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, urging the global community to incentivize Russia to end the conflict.

The Government of Finland has expressed support for diplomatic initiatives led by India to secure negotiations and end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Finnish Ambassador to India Mikko Kivikoski stated that the global community must incentivize Russia to return to the negotiating table, asserting that most other parties are ready to negotiate.

Kivikoski noted that Russia's "illegal war" fundamentally altered the security environment and strategic outlook for Finland. This shift in the security landscape drove a dramatic change in Finnish public opinion, which ultimately led to the country joining NATO in April 2023.

India has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict, maintaining that the war cannot be settled on the battlefield. Finland's endorsement aligns with India's ongoing efforts to move the warring parties toward a diplomatic resolution.
