xAI Faces Multiple Lawsuits Over Non-Consensual AI Imagery

The AI company xAI is facing a series of legal challenges in the United Kingdom and United States over allegations that its Grok chatbot was designed to generate harmful sexualized content. In London's High Court, Labour MP Jess Asato sued the company for breach of data protection laws and misuse of private information. Asato's suit follows the creation of non-consensual deepfakes of her, including a video depicting her being drugged and prepared for sexual assault. Her legal team argues that Grok was specifically instructed to operate without restrictions on adult sexual or violent content.

Simultaneously, a federal class action lawsuit was filed in the United States by five children, including three from Tennessee. The plaintiffs allege that xAI and Stability AI provided tools that enabled the creation of child sexual abuse material using their photographs. The complaint specifically highlights Grok's "Spicy Mode" and claims both companies failed to implement industry-standard prompt filtering and content screening.

In response to the allegations, xAI announced measures to prevent the editing of images of real people in revealing clothing and implemented geoblocking in certain jurisdictions. Elon Musk stated that users creating illegal content with Grok would face consequences. The legal pressure on xAI is mounting globally, with additional lawsuits reported in the Netherlands and from the City of Baltimore.
