United Airlines Launches Status-Match Campaign to Lure Elite Flyers
United Airlines is targeting elite frequent flyers from Delta and American Airlines with a status-match program and free Starlink Wi-Fi.
United Airlines launched a status-match campaign designed to attract elite frequent flyers from Delta Air Lines and American Airlines. Under the program, eligible travelers receive United status for 90 days, with the option to maintain that status through January 31, 2028, by meeting spending requirements. These thresholds range from $1,500 for entry-level elite status to $7,000 for the 1K tier.
United is using the rollout of SpaceX Starlink Wi-Fi, which is free for frequent flyer members, as a primary incentive to attract high-spending customers. This move has prompted responses from its competitors as they vie for premium travelers.
Delta Air Lines announced a strategic partnership with Amazon's Leo satellite network to provide high-bandwidth in-flight connectivity and digital services. American Airlines has also signed a deal with Starlink to equip its narrow-body fleet.
