Tesla to End Cybertruck Production by Mid-2027
Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas gigafactory by mid-2027 to prioritize the autonomous Cybercab.
Tesla will wind down production of the Cybertruck at its Texas gigafactory around the middle of 2027. CEO Elon Musk announced the shift via a post on X, stating the company will prioritize the production of the Cybercab to pivot toward robotics and self-driving technology.
Musk did not specify if Cybertruck manufacturing will be discontinued entirely or moved to another facility. The Austin plant is currently the only known site equipped to produce the vehicle's specialized components. The move follows a period of struggle for the Cybertruck, which has faced quality-control issues, multiple recalls, and frequent price revisions since its 2023 launch.
Tesla intends to position the Cybercab as the primary autonomous model within a larger driverless network. Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill described the vehicle as an "incredible technology development platform" that lives on through the Cybercab.
