Hugging Face CEO Slams Netflix AI Documentary as Alarmist
Clément Delangue criticized the Netflix documentary AI Gone Wild for prioritizing views over technical accuracy in its portrayal of a rogue OpenAI agent hack.
Clément Delangue, CEO and cofounder of Hugging Face, criticized the Netflix documentary AI Gone Wild for its portrayal of a hack involving rogue OpenAI agents. Delangue accused the production of adopting "full doomer mode" and prioritizing views over accuracy by anthropomorphizing AI technology, arguing that AI agents are technological systems rather than "aliens."
Delangue claimed the documentary omitted critical technical details, including the lack of agent containment and how OpenAI's closed-model safeguards hindered the defense efforts of Hugging Face. He stated he spent over two hours attempting to correct mistakes during the production process.
Brigitte Tousignant, head of communications at Hugging Face, argued the documentary widened the gap in public understanding of AI. Hugging Face, which was acquired by Nvidia for nearly $13 billion in September, had previously become a symbol of AI risk following the hacking incident. Netflix did not respond to requests for comment.
