Chinese Beauty Accessory Exports to US Surge Despite Trade Tensions

Chinese exporters of wigs and press-on nails report rising US sales driven by social media trends and dominant manufacturing scale.

Chinese exporters of beauty accessories, particularly wigs and press-on nails, are seeing a significant increase in sales to the United States despite persistent trade disputes. Customs data shows that exports of hair products to the U.S. grew 12.4% year-on-year, reaching $1.3 billion in the first half of 2026.

Joe Wu, an exporter in Xuchang, expects his sales to grow 40% this year, attributing the success to economies of scale and supply chain integration. This growth is heavily supported by social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram; data from Fast Moss indicates that hair products held 17 of the top 20 spots in U.S. fashion accessory sales revenue rankings for August.

Manufacturing hubs in Xuchang and Donghai maintain their market position through integrated supply chains, which include outsourcing labor-intensive wig production to North Korea. Exporters, including press-on nail factory owner Cheung Tat-ming, report that U.S. demand remains strong enough to make the sector resilient to tariffs and trade curbs. Analysts suggest that China's manufacturing capacity is difficult to replicate, ensuring its global advantage for the foreseeable future.
