Sonam Wangchuk Urges Cockroach Janta Party to Remain Apolitical

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk stated that the founders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) likely possess political ambitions, though he noted there is nothing inherently wrong with pursuing such goals. Speaking on a podcast with Prakhar Gupta, Wangchuk based this assessment on his interactions with CJP organizers Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka during a two-month student protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

The protests demanded the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. During this period, Wangchuk advised the founders to keep the student movement neutral and apolitical to maintain the platform's sanctity and public trust. He argued that the movement's success depended on its identity as a student-led pressure group rather than an extension of established political parties such as the BJP, Congress, or Aam Aadmi Party.

While Wangchuk described the organizers as well meaning and skilled, he emphasized that maintaining a neutral stance allows such groups to achieve more. He specifically dismissed concerns regarding Abhijeet Dipke's previous association with the Aam Aadmi Party, while maintaining that the movement itself must remain separate from partisan politics.
