Nigeria Commissions 581kWp Solar Mini-Grid in Kwara State

The Federal Government of Nigeria commissioned a 581kWp interconnected solar mini-grid in the Oke-Oyi community of Ilorin East, Kwara State, on September 24, 2026. Developed by Nayo Tropical Technologies Limited and implemented through the Rural Electrification Agency, the project received support from the European Union and the German Cooperation via the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.

Joseph Tegbe, the Minister of Power, stated that the project aims to use electricity as an enabler for economic activity and improved livelihoods. The facility includes 1,336 solar panels, 84 batteries, and 10 kilometers of distribution cables, serving approximately 13,000 residents. The intervention has already spurred the growth of local businesses, such as grain mills, welding shops, and water companies, while providing temporary construction jobs for local laborers.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq welcomed the project as a step toward creating a conducive environment for enterprise. Abubakar Aliyu, Managing Director and CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency, emphasized that the project's success is measured by the opportunities reliable electricity creates for the community.
