Bersatu and Opposition MPs Sign Budget 2027 Support Pact

The Bersatu party and other opposition lawmakers signed a confidence and supply agreement to support Budget 2027 in exchange for constituency funds and institutional reforms.

The political party Bersatu and several independent lawmakers signed a Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) with the Madani government to ensure the passage of the Supply Bill 2027, also known as Budget 2027. The pact includes six Bersatu MPs, six former Bersatu lawmakers, and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Under the terms of the agreement, the participating lawmakers will support the current administration until the end of the parliamentary term. In exchange, the government will provide constituency development allocations equal to those given to government backbenchers. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed these funds will be channeled immediately once the budget is passed at the end of the year.

As part of the deal, the government must table two constitutional amendments to limit the prime minister's tenure to two terms and separate the roles of the attorney-general and the public prosecutor. Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin stated the agreement aims to create national stability to address the economy and cost of living, though he emphasized that the party remains the opposition to provide checks and balances.

Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil and Prime Minister Anwar noted that the administration remains open to other members of parliament who wish to join the CSA, citing a similar arrangement used during the 2021 administration of Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
