Leica Camera and Formula 1 Launch Global Licensing Deal

Leica Camera partnered with Formula 1 to release a $9,950 special-edition Q3 43 camera featuring carbon fiber and racing-inspired design elements.

Leica Camera entered into a global licensing agreement with Formula 1 on Tuesday, marking the German manufacturer's first official partnership with the racing series. The collaboration centers on the release of the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition, a special-edition camera retailing for $9,950.

The new model is the first Leica camera to utilize carbon fiber, which is integrated into the thumb rest, grip, and soft-release button. Its design incorporates red button accents and a black covering modeled after a racing steering wheel to mirror F1 controls.

Beyond the hardware, the partnership includes a gallery show in Los Angeles and scheduled events at the United States Grand Prix in Austin. Mike Giannattasio, president of Leica Camera North America, stated the deal is based on a shared emphasis on craftsmanship and preparation, noting a synergy between people who collect high-end cameras and racing cars.
