Corscale Data Centers Faces Local Opposition in Pennsylvania
Corscale Data Centers will host a community session in Archbald to discuss Project Gravity as local activists and lawmakers push for a statewide moratorium.
Corscale Data Centers, a Texas-based developer, will hold a community information session on October 15, 2026, at the Archbald Borough Building to discuss Project Gravity. The proposed campus would consist of seven data centers spanning more than 180 acres in Archbald, Pennsylvania. Residents have raised specific concerns regarding the project's battery energy storage system and its proximity to local schools and homes.
In response to the development, residents and organizers from NEPA Stands Up will host a separate community conversation in Throop on October 16. This meeting will feature Lackawanna County Commissioner Bill Gaughan and State Senator Katie Muth, who is the prime sponsor of Senate Bill 1359. The proposed legislation seeks to establish a statewide moratorium on data center developments.
The tension in Lackawanna County reflects a broader regional trend of data center and power plant proposals. Similar resistance has appeared in other states, such as Blue Earth County, Minnesota, which is hosting public open houses in October following a local moratorium passed in August.
